You Know What I Hate… My Wedge Shot

In Golf Tips on August 17, 2010 at 9:47 pm

So I’m playing golf a few weeks ago at a nice little course in rural Canada, and I’m actually striking the ball pretty well (I credit the great local Canadian beverages we carted around). I’m hitting decent off the tees, my second shot is (mostly) doing what I want.

But ultimately, I was still struggling to get to the green. Why? Because after a decent drive, and strong second shot, I was struggling to set myself up for a nice putt by attacking the green with a wedge shot. I was feeling so good that day (outside of my wedge game), I was even saving a couple long putts. If I had to take a guess, I’d say my wedge affected about 8 to 10 strokes in my round that day.

So I’ve been bombing around the internet looking for different instructions and I came across this quick 2 minute, 32 second video from PGA Golf Professional Brad Hauer demonstrating on how to be more consistent and hit a better wedge shots from 40 to 60 yards.

Take a peak, let me know what you think. If you have your own tips for practicing, let me know!

Cheers!

After Golf: The Halfway Cafe

In After Golf Series on July 21, 2010 at 11:59 am

From time to time, the folks at Golf. Beer. Repeat. will highlight great places to eat (and obviously have a pint or two… or more) after a round of 18. You can see previous After Golf submissions here. Today, we give you The Halfway Café with 7 locations across Massachusetts.

This is a very special After Golf entry for Golf. Beer. Repeat. For the first time in our short blog career, we were able to connect with co-owner of The Halfway Café John Grasso over a few pints to discuss what makes his restaurants a great place to go after a round of swinging the sticks. And speaking of swinging the sticks, DO NOT FORGET, the 11th Annual Halfway Café Charity Golf Tournament is coming up August 2nd! Sign your team up now!

Check out the Halfway Cafe at one of their 7 locations in Massachusetts

First off, when we’re talking about The Halfway Café, we need to start with the great menu items. The Halfway Café is world famous (or so they should be) for their 7 for $7 menu. This special menu offers 7 great options for just $7! And for those who like variety, these seven items change from month to month to insure regulars will come in with new options each month. In asking John what are three items everyone needs to try among walking into a Halfway Café, he says their burgers, steak/turkey tips and original steamers are favorites of his (and among the restaurants regulars).
